I used the puzzlemaker program today. I made a cryptogram and a double scramble puzzle. I took the words that a small group worked with last week to establish class norms (we need to regulate ourselves) and plugged them in to these two puzzles. They will be my anchor opening activity to continue our work on norms. I love that they are bringing a bit of challenge to our work together.
Darn I have to retype this cause somehow it all got lost! Okay, first I used Discovery STreaming to find a video to introduce our unit on Government. The video is "This is our Government." Then I used puzzlemaker to create a cryptogram using some of the vocabulary from the video which is vocab they will need throughout the unit. Lastly, we're doing some reading on the election, so I searched for images of the candidates for the students to add to a poster. Interestingly there were no images of Romney, so I had to go to Google images for that. Unit starts next week, so we'll see how it goes. ~Mrs. Ahern
My class read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and did the lesson Your Energy IN from energybalance 101 where we talked about variety, balance, and moderation.
So more on our video introduction. We had been learning about taking notes, so I had the students take notes on what they thought the important information was from the video. After watching, I then had students share their notes and we discussed what needed to be kept and what wasn't that important from the video.
